Maren Morris Goodbye Country Music: Taking a Step Back from Country Music Industry – It’s Burning Itself Down 2023

Maren Morris Goodbye Country Music: Maren Morris, the immensely talented country music sensation, is making headlines as she steps back from the country music industry, proclaiming that it is, in her words, “burning itself down” through her new musical creations. Her intention is to bring the country music style “back to earth,” but this endeavor is proving to be quite the challenge, and she’s feeling the heat without the necessary support.

Maren Morris Goodbye Country Music: The Bridge

The title of Maren Morris‘ latest two-song EP, “The Bridge,” is just one of several metaphors she uses to imagine a way out of the country music industry, where she first found success.

On “The Tree,” the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter declares that she is “done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom”; the first line of “Get the Hell Out of Here” states that she “watered the garden but forgot to fill the well.”

Stepping Away from the Country Music Scene

Maren Morris, known for her remarkable contributions to country music, has made a surprising decision – she’s taking a step back from the country music industry. Her reasoning? She believes that the industry is in a state of turmoil, self-inflicted in many ways, and she’s determined to steer it in a different direction through her music. However, her mission is proving to be no easy feat, as she acknowledges that she can’t do it alone.

Maren Morris Goodbye Country Music: Navigating Controversy in Country Music

One of the key reasons behind Maren Morris’s decision to distance herself from the country music scene is her desire to avoid the kinds of controversies that have been plaguing the genre. Controversial tracks like “Try Dat in a Small Town” have managed to reach the summit of the mainstream music charts, but they’ve also ignited intense debates about whether they inadvertently promote violence.

In a recent interview with the L.A. Times, Morris showered praise on artists like Jason Aldean for successfully “crossing over” to the broader, all-genre charts. However, she also took the opportunity to share her perspective on the current state of country music.

“I’ve tried my best to steer clear of it,” she explained, adding, “I feel much better being away from it.”

Maren Morris Goodbye Country Music: Taking a Stand for LGBTQ+ Rights and Healthcare

In recent years, Maren Morris has emerged as a prominent voice in the country music landscape, championing LGBTQ+ representation and advocating for improved healthcare services for the LGBTQ+ community. However, she’s quick to clarify that she never saw herself as a “political artist” per se.

Her songs often celebrated the unsung heroes of her country, but as she began to notice “cracks” within the country music business, she realized that change was necessary. “And once you see it, you can’t unsee it. So, you start doing what you can with the small amount of power you have to make things better,” she asserted.

She is unafraid to critique country music and its audience when necessary, asserting that she has moved beyond the fear of being labeled a “Dixie Chick,” a reference to the Dixie Chicks, who faced a significant backlash after expressing their views against then-President George W. Bush back in 2003.

“Country music is undoubtedly a business, but it also holds an almost godlike status for young songwriters and artists who enter its realm. It feels like a cult,” she mused. “It feels like it needs a reckoning, if you truly love this genre and you start to see problems emerging.”

Maren Morris Goodbye Country Music: Addressing Issues in Country Music

According to Morris, the issues within country music became glaringly apparent in the post-Trump era when “people were on their preconceived notions.”

“It just showed that people were truly who they were, and they were proud of being wrong and racist and homophobic and transphobic. All of those things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly working with this hyper-masculine branch of country music,” she observed.

Today, she sees the genre’s use as “a weapon of culture wars.” And now, she believes she has reached a point where she can “say everything I want to say.”

“I always thought I’d have to jump out of an airplane, fingers crossed today, and this could suck, but this is what I was doing 10 years ago, moving to Nashville,” she reflected. “The freedom to fail, you know?”

Maren Morris’s bold step away from the country music scene is not only an act of personal growth but also a statement about the direction she hopes the industry will take. While challenges persist, her commitment to addressing issues within the genre, her support for LGBTQ+ rights and healthcare, and her determination to use her platform for positive change mark her as a trailblazer in the world of country music. Only time will tell how her journey unfolds and whether her efforts will contribute to reshaping the country music landscape.
